Microsoft have released a new Hotfix for Data Protection Manager 2010 which allows multiple systems to be managed by a central Data Protection Manger 2012 console. This update effectively extends the new Centralised Management Features from Data Protection Manger 2012 back to DPM 2010.
This interoperability patch enables your System Center Data Protection Manager (SCDPM) 2010 servers to be centrally managed using the Central Console feature available with SCDPM 2012. Once you have installed this hotfix, you can monitor and manage both SCDPM 2010 and SCDPM 2012 servers using the same console.
You can download the Microsoft hot-fix for Data Protection Manger from the Microsoft website
Data Protection Manager (DPM) is part of the Microsoft System Center Suite of Systems Management products. With System Center 2012 you now automatically license for the entire suite, so you are automatically licensed to use DPM on any server with a System Center Management license. Data Protection Manager provides Continuous Data Protection (CDP) for File and Application data backup along with options for Bare Metal Recovery. DPM is a Disk-to-Disk backup solution with options for multi level backup and tape archive. DPM has inbuilt Application support for Microsoft SQL Server, SharePoint and Exchange.
If you are using Microsoft System Center for your IT Infrastructure Management then you should be using DPM as part of your overall backup strategy.
