The Pano Device

The Pano Zero Client Device

The heart of the Pano System is the Pano Device, a whole new class of client computing hardware.  The Pano Zero Client VDI DevicePano Devices are often referred to as zero clients because unlike traditional thin clients they have no CPU, no memory, no operating system, no drivers, no software and no moving parts. They simply serve to connect peripheral input-output devices - a keyboard, mouse, VGA display, and audio output – along with other USB peripherals to a virtualized Microsoft Windows desktop operating system running on a server in the data center. Pano Devices not only help you cut client hardware and IT support costs - they also conserve electricity, using as little as 3% of the energy consumed by even an EnergyStar certified desktop PC.

Pano Devices connect using standard IP protocols over local area networks via an Ethernet port making them easy to integrate into your existing LAN infrastructure. The Pano Device can be thought of as using the LAN as a long KVM extension cord to connect the display and and other peripherals on the user's desk to the virtualized Windows desktop running on the data center server.

Pano Devices are also stateless; in other words, it does not store anything at all about the user, the desktop virtual machine, or any data used by it. The statelessness of the Pano Device provides users with other productivity benefits.  For example you can suspend your personal desktop virtual machine attached to one Pano Device and then immediately resume use of it at any other Pano Device or even at a Windows computer using Pano Remote.  This saves you time shutting down and booting up, as you can immediately resume work with the same set of open applications and files,  for example when moving from your office to a conference room to make a presentation or when checking your email or finishing up work at home in the evening.

The clean and functional design of the Pano Device was created by Whipsaw, one of the world's leading industrial design firms, helping it fit into modern office and public environments unlike bulky PCs.
