AppManager Integration for NetAssure

NetAssure® has two levels of integration with NetIQ AppManager, these being:-

  • System Import - provided in the NetAssure configuration application. This allows you to rapidly build a host list from the AppManager repository.

  • Remote System Monitor - The functionality of the AppManager Module described here.

These two levels of integration are provided with every NetAssure system, it is not necessary to order a separate AppManager module for NetAssure.

The AppManager module for NetAssure® is included in the NetAssure package. The module includes Knowledge Scripts to ensure that NetAssure is functioning correctly and to monitor the remote systems and bring the event information into AppManager.

The Knowledge Scripts in the module comprise:-

Remote System Monitoring

The Knowledge Scripts for monitoring the  Remote Systems are:-

  • System Down - Generate a single alert to tell you that a system is no longer accessible , warnings are generated if a system is not accessible by its primary Assurance method, but is still contactable by a Ping. The event details will also tell you which applications are impacted.

This Script has been enhanced to give you options regarding AppManager Maintenance Mode, and also allows you to ignore maintenance mode and generate alerts for all Systems.

  • System Up - Generate a single alert to tell you that a system is now contactable again. Now includes an Option AutoAck feature to automatically acknowledge corresponsing Server down events. If you use the AutoAck feature we will insert a comment into the System Down Event telling you how long the system was down for.

Typically customers will use the System Down KS, with an error event, to inform operations that a system is down. Using the SMTP action and the AutoAck features in conjunction with the Event enrichment capabilities greatly reduces the operational overhead.

NetAssure Action

The NetAssure Action Knowledge Scripts is used in conjunction with the System Down KS.

  • NetAssure-SMTP - Uses the email parameters assigned to a host, for either Business Hours or Out of hours to send an email to the appropriate group. This action looks up the correct recipient, for a specific system, depending on the time of day and ensures the correct person is always notified. The optional event enrichment parameters pass through system specific information like location and applications services - enabling operators to prioritise and quickly locate the system.

NetAssure Monitoring

The NetAssure monitoring Knowledge Scripts ensure that the NetAssure Services is running and also show you the resource utilisation of NetAssure on the monitoring server. Two KS's are provided, these being:-

  • Resource Usage - Tells you the amount of CPU and Memory that the NetAssure Service is using, along with the number of threads currently in use.

  • Service State - Monitors the NetAssure Service, to ensure that Remote System Assurance is taking place. If the service is found to be stopped it will optionally be re-started and you will be told how long the service was down for.

  • License Event - Alerts you to any events relating to the NetAssure License, which may impact your ability to monitor remote systems. e.g.:-
    • Evaluation License due to Expire
    • More systems configured than you are licensed for
